The Creative Impact Experience is a shorter Planetary Productions program designed for people who want to contribute to pre-existing documentary projects in a focused, real-world environment.

Set in Campeche and Tepakán, Mexico, this short program invites participants to step into active productions that need creative support, fresh energy and final polish. It is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience outside the classroom while helping amplify stories connected to art, culture, women’s empowerment, Mayan heritage and community-led change.

The Location:

Campeche is a colourful coastal city on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, known for its colonial architecture, creative spirit and deep cultural heritage.

With its pastel buildings, old city walls, vibrant local art scene and connection to Mayan history, Campeche offers an inspiring environment for documentary storytelling. It is a place where culture, community and creativity are deeply woven into everyday life, making it a powerful setting for stories about art, identity, tradition, women’s empowerment and cultural preservation.

For the Creative Impact Experience, participants will be based in Campeche while engaging with documentary projects connected to both the city and surrounding communities, including the Mayan ceramic traditions of Tepakán and the centrally located artistic studio of Galería Elementos.

Film Crew Roles:

Participants will step into real production roles across the documentary process, including:

  • Editor

  • Cinematographer

  • Director

  • Behind-the-Scenes Photographer

  • Behind-the-Scenes Videographer

Each production will be supported by a wider creative and cultural team, including floating crew members, local translators, cultural guides and professional mentors.

Additional cultural roles may be included depending on the documentary topic like a Mayan Translator for the Tepakán Documentary.

Pottery in Maya

Mayan Ceramics - Preserving culture through art

Tepakán - Mexico

A documentary exploring traditional Mayan ceramics in the village of Tepakán, where local artists are working to preserve culture, creativity and intergenerational knowledge through pottery.

Participants may support translation, additional interviews, cultural research, editing, behind-the-scenes content and story refinement.

Program Outcomes:

  • Translate the original interviews from Mayan into Spanish

  • Get interview with historian for Mayan Art

  • Highlight the stories protagonist in their everyday lifes

  • Polish current interviews, footage & archives

Galería Elementos

Erika Biancas - Artist for Women's Empowerment

Campeche - Mexico

A documentary following artist, curator and gallery founder Erika Biancas, whose work supports local artists while creating one of the few independent spaces for visual art in Campeche.

Participants may support additional filming, secondary interviews, exhibition coverage, editing, BTS content and promotional storytelling.

Program Outcomes:

  • Capture Erika's Art Classes

  • Get 1-2 secondary subject interviews

  • Capture Erika's Exhibitions

  • Polish current interviews, footage & archives

Built Into the Experience

Program Outcomes:

By the end of the Creative Impact Experience, participants will have contributed to a real social-impact documentary project while gaining practical experience in cross-cultural storytelling, production workflows, creative collaboration and ethical documentary practice.

This experience is designed to help participants build confidence, develop their creative voice and understand how storytelling can honour communities, preserve culture and amplify people creating positive change.

The program does not include:

  • Flights

  • Daily meals, aside from selected welcome and farewell dinners, food tours and group experiences
